…says violent crimes of this magnitude are strange to us in Okun land.
The Director-General, Federal Consumer Protection Commission (FCPC), Babatunde Irukera has also condemned the dastardly attack on a bank at Isanlu, Yagba East of Kogi State that left in its wake 8 police officers and some civilians dead.
Irukera in a statement made available to the press titled “A sad yet needless loss”, expressed dismay while also Condoling with all the bereaved. The DG also condemned the act in no mean terms describing the incident as horific and unfortunate.
“It is with shock and sadness that I commiserate first with the brethren of Isanlu, and then Yagba East, Yagba people, Okun land and Kogi on the unfortunate and horrific incident of ——— where our innocence was once again shattered by the senseless shooting and killing of law enforcement officers and other citizens during a bank robbery. Indeed, we live in perilous times, and our nation continues to suffer from insecurity. Regardless, violent crimes of this magnitude are strange to us in Okun land, and our disputes, yearnings, and even greed have never been articulated or addressed by this mindless level of violence. This of course explains the shock, apprehension and outrage attributed to this sad incident and needless loss. Our thoughts and prayers are with the families of the departed, the Nigerian Police Force, and our communities who have jointly suffered loss. At a time like this, I encourage the brethren to reach out and demonstrate the love and compassion that is our heritage.” the statement said.
It will be recalled that on the 4th of June, 2020, a branch of the First Bank plc at Isanlu, Yagba East Local Government Area of Kogi State, was attacked by several gunmen who came with guns blazing away at any one in sight. The gunmen, reportedly numbering more than 15, were said to have come in three groups and had launched a simultaneous attack on both the bank and the police station close to the bank killing 8 police officers of the 9 on duty with the only survivor escaping death only as she had gone to buy food and was on her way back at the time of the attack.
The robbers also killed several civilians at the bank and around it in the course of the attack and made away with cash and other valuables.
